A man attempting to rob a woman in Centre County on Wednesday night quickly realized he chose the wrong person. Emma Troutman said she was getting something from her car when a man attacked her while she was in her driveway in Taylor Township around 11:30 p.m. Troutman said the man grabbed her arm, pushed her head against the window, and demanded money. Little did the suspect know, Emma Troutman is a trained law enforcement officer. “I opened up the car, just the door a little bit, and he backed off – thinking I was getting my purse or something. I had my pistol inside the door. So I grabbed it with my one hand. And when I spun around and he saw I had that, he took off running.” |

Two recent fatal shootings in Muncie could lead to the filing of murder charges — but not against those who fired the gunshots. City police say both of the shooting victims — 26-year-old Scott Allen Gilliam on Sept. 21, and 21-year-old Trayon L. Officers responded to the Wood Hill Drive area to investigate a report of shots fired during a possible burglary at about 8:30 a.m. A resident had confronted an intruder inside 56 Wood Hill Drive, said Lt. Charles Pelton. A shot was fired, but no one was injured police said. The intruder then ran into the woods, which prompted an extensive search with State Police, Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office and police K-9s. The man was spotted near Severance Beach on the northwest edge of the lake, but police eventually lost his track, Pelton said. The suspect is described as a white male, between 30- and 40-years-old, with gray hair and a gray beard. Pelton said he does not believe the man poses a risk to public safety. The residents of the home are the owners of Rig A’ Tony’s, a pizzeria in Derry. |

Dayton police responded to a report of a ‘shots fired call’ Thursday. It happened just after 9 p.m. in the 700 block of Hart Street in Dayton. The victim told police that she was preparing dinner in the kitchen when she saw a reflection in the lenses of her glasses. When she turned around, there was a male at the back door with an “unknown long rifle,” according to a Dayton police report. She said the man was wearing a clown mask, a long-sleeved black shirt, black gloves and black jeans. The man was telling the woman to open the back door that was locked at the time. The victim ran into the living room, where she was able to see two other men in her front yard. That’s when she grabbed her “black revolver handgun,” according to the police report. The suspect with the clown mask ran into the yard. That’s when the woman exited her house and saw the suspect with the mask point the rifle at her and try to load his weapon. She reportedly told the suspect to drop his weapon and he did not, that’s when she fired a “warning shot” into the garage. The suspects ran into an unknown direction.” |
