Thanks to all your hard work last year, the Second Amendment saw resounding victories on Election Day 2016. From local state legislature races, to governor races, to Congress and the United States presidency, YOU showed up to elected pro-gun lawmakers into office. YOU did that. |

For the last several years, so-called “Firearms Freedom Acts” or “Second Amendment Preservation Acts” have attracted a lot of attention. Such legislation, passed or introduced in various states, seeks to make federal laws regarding firearms inapplicable to firearms and ammunition produced, sold, and used exclusively within the state’s borders on the premise that Congress’s power to regulate commerce among the states doesn’t reach purely in-state activities. |

This week, President Trump kept one of his most important campaign promises by nominating an originalist judge – Neil Gorsuch – to fill the Supreme Court vacancy left by Justice Antonin Scalia’s death last February. Scalia was the court’s foremost practitioner of originalism and textualism, judicial philosophies that seek to resolve constitutional questions by reference to the language of the document, as publicly understood at the time of its enactment. |

On Thursday, the U.S. House of Representatives issued a strong statement in support of the Second Amendment by passing H.J. Res. 40, which would repeal Barack Obama’s scandalous attempt to grab guns from thousands of vulnerable, law-abiding Social Security recipients. Anti-gun activists and their media typists have predictably reacted to the House vote with hysteria and dishonesty. In this case, it’s particularly troubling that self-proclaimed “progressives” immediately resorted to stigmatizing and stereotyping the mentally ill to whip up fear and misinformation. |

The Judiciary Committee’s approval came a day later than anticipated, after Democrat committee members delayed the vote in order to express their displeasure with the Trump administration. The move led Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) to remark, “Our friends on the other side seem to be upset about the outcome of the election on November 8. I guess you could say they’re going through the stages of grief.” |

We don’t run a single one. … Our real goal is to get the government to pass laws that eliminate farms with animals.” |

Republicans appeared to be targeting environmental regulations, but they also addressed the priorities of gun rights groups and the broader business community.
